The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is known to be a private sector that was instituted in 1952 to synchronize the uniformity of the date of appointing to position graduate medical education (GME) in the US.
This year 2010 is the highest number of appointments in the history of NRMP, covering almost more than 37,000 aspirants, 4,100 graduate medical education programs, and 25,500 residency training positions that have been recorded as of now.
The NRMP is administrated by its board of directors. Composes of five medical education organizations, one program director organization, and three medical student organizations nominate candidates for election to the board.
Every year the NRMP private sector conducts a residency match that is intended to augment the rank well-ordered selections of program directors and students. They announce the results during the third week in the month of March. They have various programs that are offered. The NRMP later publicized this upcoming 2011 that a new match for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPRS) Fellowships. Applicants can register themselves in FPRS. There are also for Medical Genetics (MG) a fellowship match in 2011 appointment year. The registration will start on July 28, 2010.
